Outdoor Market
Woodruff Street, Litchfield
Market hours: Saturdays,10 am -1pm
New this season!
- Anna Gill
Anna Gill's column is about leeks this week. Her recipes always
have our mouths watering before we get to the market!

Guest musician - Doug Mahard
Local musician Doug Mahard returns to the market. He is a singer/guitarist who is reminiscent of James Taylor. Stop by and listen for a few minutes.

Guest artist - Priscilla Membrino
handcrafted fused dichroic glass jewelry
Priscilla has been making fused dichroic glass jewelry for the past five years. The most distinctive feature of dichroic glass is that it seems to have more than one color, especially when viewed from different angles.

The word "dichroic", pronounced Dye-Cro-Ick, is derived from two Greek roots, "di" for two and "chroma" for color. So "dichroic" literally means "two-colored." The coatings are produced by depositing thin layers of a variety of metal oxides to the glass in a vacuum. When fused in a kiln the color range shifts on the glass with the heat.

Guest artist  - Yvette Haas
Bantam resident Yvette Haas, joins us as a guest artist. She creates silk screened shirts, throw pillows and textiles. Yvette is bringing those as well as some of her paintings.

Art Activity - Heather Hurley
Heather has managed this program this summer (thank you, Heather!) and is taking her turn at leading an activity.  We can promise it will be fun and entertaining.  Stop by and visit!

Labor Day already.  Seems like the summer flew by!  But the farmers' market isn't just a summer event.  As the school sessions begin and we settle into fall, we have LOTS of wonderful farm-fresh products available over the next several months.  The market continues weekly through December - outside at Center School until 10/23, then inside at the Litchfield Community Center.  January through May we remain at the Community Center twice a month.

Vendor notes.  Winding Drive Jams and Olive Oil Factory have left us temporarily due to health issues, but we are working on a model to have their products still available at the market.  Bethlehem Christian Fellowship is back with their pies this week - peach, peach/blueberry, peach/raspberry and apple.  Cato Corner cheeses available are Bloomsday, Brigid's Abbey and Dutch Farmstead.

Special events at the market include two guest artists - Priscilla Membrino with her dichroic glass works and Yvette Haas with her silk screened textile products.  Music is provided by Doug Mahard.  And Heather Hurley will lead the art activity.  See below for more details.
Our guest chef this week had to cancel at the last minute, so the Market Master Team will see what we can "cook up"! We're thinking something simple along the lines of Chris Prosperi's herbed oil recipe. You'll just have to wait and see. Whatever it is, we promise it will be tasty.

Anna Gill's weekly column is on alliums with a focus on leeks.  Yum!  Check out her recipes.

Anyone who would like to be added to our email list should send an e-mail with that request to kaycarroll@aol.com.

Hope to see you at the market Saturday!
